A sub-contracted laborer working on a school roof-replacement project stepped onto a thin sheet of plywood that had been placed over a large gap in the roof, in an area being prepared for replacement, and fell straight through.  He suffered a non-displaced fractured vertebra in his lower back from the fall.  After litigating the case in Nassau county Supreme Court, and winning a motion for summary judgment,  the contractor's insurance company settled for a substantial sum.

Outcome

High six-figure settlement after summary judgment
