Question

I was in an accident in 2011 .have permanent damage lawyer did not fight or work my case .as I have permanent nerve damage .settled for 20 k.which is nothing compared to what I suffer everyday.had me come to his office over 2weeks ago said case was settled had me sign papers and still have not received a. Damn thing.said he has to make sure I don't owe medicaid.I work so how would I owe medicaid.he should of had all this checked out already..

Sorry to hear about your trouble. If you were unlucky enough to have been hit by a car with the State's minimum insurance coverage (25k), and you don't have SUM coverage yourself, maybe that's why 20k is the best he could get for you, I don't know, you should ask him. Or rather, you should have asked him - since you already signed a release. The insurance co. has 21 days after presentation of the closing papers to issue a check. A lot of them wait until the last day to send it. As for Medicaid, if you never had it, you don't have to worry. The City just needs to issue him a letter saying there's no lien.
