How do I sue the garage door company for the loss of my cat?

My cat was crushed by the garage door, the electric eye is set at 8.5 inches , installed 2014 by a garage door company. The door broke the cats back , we had to put her to sleep. My daughter and I are devastated that the cat lay suffering and alive until we found her.

That's terrible. Unfortunately, there is no legal recourse beyond the cost of the cat, so it would not be something to file a lawsuit over. The company should be made aware that a beloved family cat was hurt by their product/workmanship - you might prevent this from happening to someone else's pet.
