Question

I have lead poisoning and my lawyer settled with the homeowners insurance December 3rd 2014. I signed the release the very next day. It is now january 12th 2015. I talked to my lawyer about a week ago and they said they are still waiting. Have I been waiting too long? How much longer should it take until I receive a check?

Answer

Sometimes, there are other documents besides the Release which need to be sent to the carrier, particularly if there's any medicaid or other liens that need final letters. Ask you lawyer what's causing the hold-up - just saying "we're still waiting" is not helpful. The carriers know they have 21 days, and will usually adhere to that time frame.
